Day 218 – My Blueberry Summer

August 4, 2012

“What we wish for gives rise to our thoughts, and our thoughts motivate us to action. Our actions set other things in motion, in either positive or negative ways, which result in ourselves and others experiencing happiness or unhappiness. This is called karmaeverything we do sets something in motion. Since what we do arises from what we wish for, here we are talking about the very deep level in our being that gives rise to things, to activities. We are planting seeds there. By thinking deeply about equanimity, love, compassion, and joy, we are planting seeds in our minds and our hearts that will lead to happiness for ourselves and others.”

If you want to grow a garden of good food, you would not plant seeds of crabgrass, stinging nettle, and other weeds.[…] Likewise, if you want to plant a garden of happiness, you would not sow seeds of deception, anger, jealousy, and greed. If you plant seeds of equanimity, love, compassion, and joy, then these seeds will give rise to actions that benefit others, which in turn will bear the fruit of happiness for yourself, those you love, and all beings. (Moh Hardin, A Little Book of Love, 2011)
